Graffiti Beach Teams Up with UC Irvine to Revive Urban Arts Fest!!
This past week, UC Irvine and Graffiti Beach re-launched the Urban Art Fest on UCI’s campus. UC Irvine’s Hip Hop Congress and ASUCI worked with Graffiti Beach to create a groundbreaking event featuring Graffiti Beach’s Pop-up shops, a Student Modeled Fashion Show, live Graffiti Art by Brad Parker and Rick Ramos, Dance Performances by America’s Best Dance Crew’s Kaba Modern, MCIA and Bboys Anonymous, performances by Aloe Blacc and Maya Jupiter, and as the finale – People Under the Stairs rocked the stage!
To start off the evening, student DJ Geo-D opened and spun some beats. VJ Michael Benz raffled off a custom designed bike from Nirve which featured artwork by Brad Parker. Graffiti Beach then showcased a fashion show featuring the hottest trends in streetwear from Ha-67, Fixed Love, Vlado Footwear, Steppie, Tank Theory, Denim of Virtue, Rock Revival, Ultra Violet, Shag and Arka. The runway looks were finished off with hair and makeup by the fabulous stylists at FaceLogic and Robert & Taylor Salon.
Host Speak along with his producer, Afta-1, hyped up the crowd and introduced the phenomenal Dance Crews Kaba Modern, MCIA and Bboys Anonymous. Aloe Blacc, an underground Hip Hop artist, graced the stage with a guest performance by Maya Jupiter. Zion-I was originally supposed to perform, but UCI students were informed that Zumbi threw out his back the night before. His DJ, DJ Amplive, still rocked it with a set of Zion-I’s music. Next, MC Supernatural blew the crowd away with a freestyle featuring people and objects from the audience. Finally, to everyone’s delight, People Under the Stairs finished the night with a surprise performance!
Throughout all three days of the event, UCI students shopped some great deals from Graffiti Beach’s Pop-up Shops including: Angel Sunglasses, Anarchy Sunglasses, Nimo Accessories, Phormula, Andrew Sebastian Pillows, Steppie, Arka, Denim of Virtue, DIY Art and Craft, Sunflower Swimwear, Gost Brand, Stand By Boards, Rad is Rad, Sick Star, Verve Jewelry, Handmade Hearts, Elephont, Dino Live Art, Mrs. Five, Bloodbath, Foreign Family, p.o.p Candy, Honest Tea and Retro Outlaw.
The event was sponsored by Foam Magazine, Crunk Juice, Nirve, RAW:natural born artists and Local Hipsters.
