Seeing a dream slowly fade away after years of working in the corporate world is a common story for a lot of people. However, with creativity, perseverance, and passion, one can take their dreams back into their own hands. That is exactly what designer Shana Mattheis did.
Shana Mattheis founded her first Fruitsofmylabor etsy shop in the fall of 2010. Earlier that year, unsatisfied with her current job, she decided to take a huge risk: to save up her money, quit her job, buy a small camper and travel throughout the Canadian National Parks and the Yukon on her way to Alaska. While many of us only dream of doing such a thing, taking off for a life on the road without the security of a stable job, Mattheis just knew this was something she had to do; a calling.
Mattheis had taken metalsmithing classes back in college and through traveling and being inspired by the rugged beauty of land, and while she painted along her journey, it wasn’t until she returned from Alaska that she found her way back into metalsmithing. On her new website – shanamattheis.com, carefully handcrafted earrings, bracelets, and necklaces are made using copper, brass, and sterling silver designed with the wearer in mind. These pieces have an amazing textured look and feel to them that anybody who is used to working with their hands would definitely appreciate.
